Ivan Popov was among the top commanders of the Russian forces that invaded Ukraine. But now it seems that things have changed radically for him.
Last summer, an audio recording caused a stir in which what newspapers identified as General Popov said he had been removed from command of the 58th Army because he had reported the dramatic situation at the front to his superiors, with “ mass dead and wounded” among Kremlin troops and artillery support that he considered insufficient.
According to Russian news agencies, the general has actually been arrested on charges of "fraud".
