The new American administration has made its first public move in relation to the Western Balkans by demanding the removal of the United Nations mission UNMIK from Kosovo.
The request was presented at the Security Council meeting by the UN Chargé d'Affaires John Kelley and was also supported by Foreign Minister Donika Gërvalla.
"The time has come to withdraw UNMIK from Kosovo. We demand the gradual closure of this mission."
The United States is committed to eradicating unnecessary spending in international organizations.
"UNMIK is a peacekeeping mission without peacekeepers, with 81 percent of its budget going to personnel salaries even though the mission has long exceeded its mandate," said John Kelley.
