The payment of €204,000 "compensation" to a woman by her ex-husband for 25 years of unpaid work at home was awarded by a court in Spain on the eve of March 8.

Ivana Moral's ex-husband was ordered to pay this amount based on the minimum wage applicable during their married life.

The couple have two daughters with the ruling stating that Ivana spent almost all of her time taking care of family members and working at home throughout the marriage. Her ex-husband Ivana must also pay her a pension of 498 euros per month as well as monthly support of 399 euros and 597 euros for their two daughters aged 20 and 14.

Ivana Moral, who married her husband in 1995 before filing for divorce in 2020, said she was pleased with the compensation after so many years of hard work.

"It was clearly an act of abuse to be completely cut off financially (by my ex-husband) with nothing when our marriage ended leaving me and my daughters with nothing after all these years of my time, my energy and my love for this family ", said the woman from Spain.

As stated in the court's decision, throughout her married life, Ivana "dedicated herself to housework, taking care of the house and family with all that it entails."

According to Spanish media, the couple had signed a prenuptial agreement that said they would only share what they earned together, with the result that the wife would not have access to the money her husband earned during their career together.

Speaking to the Spanish media, Ivana explained that her husband did not want her to work "outside the home" and only allowed her to work at home. The ex-husband of the Spanish woman is expected to appeal the court's decision.
