Spain - The Civil Guard in Spain has destroyed a criminal gang of Albanian origin, which is accused of 40 robberies worth 800,000 euros.

The Spanish media reports that the seven Albanian citizens who have been arrested were based in Gandia, in the city of Valencia, and their "work" focus was on houses inhabited in different Spanish provinces.

Operation 'Rovisa' began last March when several robberies were carried out in apartments in the province of Salamanca that caused great social alarm among the citizens. Civil Guard agents suspected that their perpetrators could be the same ones who had carried out different attacks in different parts of the country.

During the investigations, it was discovered that some of the suspected perpetrators of Albanian origin used the Lisbon airport to enter and exit Spain to their country and to make the work of the Civil Guard agents difficult. For this reason, the support of the Portuguese police and the working group of the Albanian police was requested. All agents were coordinated by the European police agency Europol, within the framework of the European platform against criminal threats EMPACT OPC.

Over the months, the Albanians had become experts in their "job" and had committed a series of thefts in the city of Gandía. They also traveled to different places in Spain to commit thefts. The leaders of the group changed their names regularly in their country of origin, with some of them having up to three different names and identifications to make the work of the Civil Guard more difficult.

Also, Albanians avoided using mobile phones for their communications by using radios and used fake license plates as a security measure to avoid detection. After the arrest of seven Albanian citizens, the Civil Guard has carried out house checks in Madrid and Valencia. They arrested seven members of the group and seized a large amount of jewelry, money, technology and various materials used to carry out the robberies in the provinces of Salamanca, Valladolid, León, Palencia, La Rioja, Navarra and Zaragoza.
