Four Albanians have been jailed in England after Metropolitan Police detectives used data on their urban travel cards to link them to a series of burglaries at several London flats, during which items worth over £8,000 were stolen.

Çlirim Ferizi, 26, of Tookey Close, Harrow, was sentenced to two years in prison at Isleworth Crown Court on Thursday, August 20.

His accomplice, Oresti Saliaj, 40, of Wembley Park Drive, Brent, was previously sentenced to three years and six months in prison on Wednesday, April 22, at the same court.

According to the Metropolitan Police, which Top Channel refers to, detectives launched the investigation after a burglary at a flat in Ruislip in February. Through extensive review of security camera footage (CCTV), forensic evidence and analysis of mobile phone data and Oyster travel cards, officers were able to link the two men to several other burglaries.

Investigations revealed that they had deliberately targeted the homes of families from the South Asian community, believing they would find jewelry and other high-value items there.

Among the items stolen by the two men were a Rolex watch worth £7,000, a pair of gold earrings worth £1,500 and an antique ring worth £1,200.

Police statement

Detective Sergeant Ross Smith, who led the Metropolitan Police investigation, said:

“These criminals deliberately targeted families in their homes, causing emotional distress and fear to the victims. This investigation brought together a range of evidence, including Oyster card data, which strengthened the case and helped to create a clear evidentiary picture, placing both perpetrators at the scene of each burglary. We know that burglaries have a long-term impact on victims and we are committed to pursuing perpetrators and bringing them to justice. Our approach is paying off, with burglaries falling by 6% across London over the last year, demonstrating the impact of increased patrols and targeted policing measures.”

On Friday, January 30, Saliaj and an unknown person forced their way into a flat in Oakleigh Park North, in the Barnet area, from where they stole a Rolex watch worth £7,000, as well as jewellery and other valuable bags.

Detectives arrived at the scene along with forensic specialists to collect security camera footage, DNA evidence and witness statements, thus launching the investigation.

The two men committed a series of linked burglaries in the Hayes area, targeting the homes of families from the South Asian community, over an eight-day period.

Detectives were able to link them to the crimes through footage from doorbell cameras, security cameras, phone records and travel logs.

On Monday, January 19, officers received a report of an attempted burglary at a flat in Ealing.

The police arrived within minutes and found Dionis on the roof of the apartment, trying to escape arrest.

With the help of the Metropolitan Police Dog Unit, he was caught and a crowbar was found on him, as well as items stolen from the flat.

Cuka was later located and arrested on March 4.

Both men were sentenced to a total of five years in prison at Isleworth Crown Court on April 23.

In a separate investigation by the Police Special Unit for Combating Organised Crime (Flying Squad), Patrick Doherty, 24, of Ferry Lane, Haringey, was identified as a member of an organised crime group that had targeted the homes of families from the South Asian community across London and the surrounding counties over a period of several months.

Flying Squad officers analyzed witness statements, security camera footage and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) data, which linked Doherty to each address at the time of the thefts.

Following a surveillance operation, officers arrested the group just minutes after its members had forced their way into a flat in southwest London.

Officers arrested Doherty on October 16, 2025, and charged him with several counts of residential burglary.

He was later sentenced to three years and nine months in prison at Kingston Crown Court on June 22. (TCH)
