The discovery of several listening devices in their cells caused a revolt by dozens of prisoners, including Albanians, at Pisa's Don Bosco prison. Around 40 people are suspected of taking control of an entire ward, barricading themselves inside and demanding to meet with the prison police commander and the director of the institution.
The protest began around 7:00 PM, as revealed by a live broadcast on TikTok, made by a prisoner with a cell phone, which had ended up in his hand despite the bans.
The man shared on social media that on Tuesday, the prison administration had taken prisoners out of their cells for about two hours, with the excuse that “an evacuation test was going to be conducted.” According to him, on Wednesday, they discovered the presence of listening devices and other electronic devices hidden for investigative purposes.
During the live broadcast on the social network, which had around 15 thousand viewers before it was interrupted, the prisoners, with their faces uncovered and without visible signs of physical violence, alternating between Italian and Albanian, denounced that they "have been beaten with rubber batons" and that they have "the right not to be eavesdropped on and to be able to speak freely while we are in our cells, without fear that they are eavesdropping on us."
In the video, the conversation in Albanian and Italian continues as follows:
-Obobo!
-Go away, you piece of shit!
-No, the clock has come!
-Go!
-You f**ked up my sister! Go get the trash!
-Now they are surrounded.
-They surrounded them?
-Yes, yes!
-Take the refrigerators! Lock down the place!
-Brother, tell me the name of the prison!
-Don't, they're gone!
Dozens of police officers, carabinieri and members of the penitentiary police arrived to manage the protest, which is currently under control. However, several dozen people have gathered outside the prison, among them relatives and friends of the prisoners.
It is reported that there were also clashes between some prisoners and police officers, to the point that several ambulances arrived inside the prison to provide assistance to those in need.
Among the reasons for the protest are the overcrowding of prison cells and the hygienic and sanitary conditions of the institution./Corriere
