Shocking new facts about the disappearance of Remzi Hoxha

A special chapter of the book "The First Republic" by Mero Baze, deals in detail with the disappearance of the Albanian from Kosovo Remzi Hoxha, who was kidnapped by SHIK and never returned to his family. In his book, the journalist Mero Baze deals with this issue from the origin of the event, where he talks about conversations with almost the entire pyramid of the state of that time. Precisely from the way the heads of state have responded, starting with Sali Berisha and Bashkim Gazidede, a lot can be understood about this event. Meanwhile, for this serious tragedy, the leadership of Kosovo has requested information from Tirana, but they never told the truth...

Remzi Hoxha's murder, Rugova's and Berisha's reactions to it

I met Remzi Hoxha at the beginning of 1995, while I was also working in the newspaper "Rilindja" in Tirana. He had reconstructed the offices of the printing house "Euro Rilindja" on the street "Myslym Shyri" and for a while he often appeared in the office, waiting to complete the financial liquidations with the manager of the printing house.

He was an almost silent man who always had a cigarette in his mouth as an excuse for not joining our noisy conversations. GS, who was in charge of the newspaper's computer system, had meanwhile started a partnership with him for a department for the production of duralumin windows, near Tirana's refrigerator. GS knocked on my office one weekday in October 1995, worried that Remzi had been picked up by the criminal police and worried that he was being mistreated.

Nexhmedini, Remzi's brother, was with him. I was asked to inquire what might have been done with it. Within an hour, I asked the whole state dome on the phone, from the head of Commissioner No. 3, to Sali Berisha. The first, Gjergj Jorgo, the head of Commissariat No. 3, admitted that SHIK has brought a Kosovar to the cell, but he is not aware of who he is.

- They usually keep them for 24 hours. - said.

After 24 hours, he "didn't know anything anymore" who was the one they had brought and where he was. Aleksandër Meksi as prime minister and Agron Musaraj as ex-minister of Rendi had no knowledge, but they were clear in their explanations, it was the work of SHIK. Only two people have answered me the same way and asked me the same questions. They were Sali Berisha and Bashkim Gazidede. They both asked me, still without giving me an answer, where I know Remzi Hoxha and I explained to them how we knew each other.

They both asked me without answering yet where he is, where I knew Remzi Hoxha's partner and I explained to them. Both have let me understand not to get involved in this work because "it could be service games" and that his partner "should be careful." And both, in the end, told me, "we actually don't know where it is", even though they asked me more questions than I asked them.

My colleague, Ylli Rakipi, who I asked for help to ask Berisha again about this issue, also asked some of these questions again, then told him that he could be an agent of UDB and should not interfere in this work. This is all the first two days. After that, they didn't give you any more answers, since apparently he died in their hands. As with many of his things, Sali Berisha has a method that says several different variants, in order to make the respondent.

The last time he appeared in the media, he said that he heard about this for the first time from Adem Demaçi, a year or so later. In his immediate circle, at first he said that UDB may have kidnapped him (with license plates and SHIK officers). Then he said that he was suspected of being part of the script for a failed assassination attempt on Gligorov. Ziso Kristopuli was also arrested, to make the connection with the Greeks, against the former president of Macedonia.

Finally, his subconscious spoke. On "Syri" television, his son's screen, in an interview, admitted that Remziu was told "that he wanted to kill Sali Berisha." In fact, no one has said this publicly, except for Sali Berisha. But he thinks that by repeating the real reason to himself, others have heard it.

This is the slightly more convincing reason why Berisha's SHIK kidnapped Remzi Hoxha. He was detained, kidnapped and then left in their hands during torture, under the suspicion that he was part of a leftist group in Kosovo, the genesis of the later creation of the KLA, but first, through their writings and pamphlets, they threatened Sali Berisha as a "traitor to the nation."

In the archive of the Government of Kosovo, there is a letter from the family members of Remzi Hoxha, addressed to Bujar Bukoshi, which proves that the government and Sali Berisha himself have officially received contact from the family since the first month. Among other things, the letter states: "On 21.10.1995, at 1:30 p.m., he was taken by persons posing as the criminal police, at his workplace as the president of the company "Albatros." These people had three cars with them, pistols, handcuffs that tied Remzi and took him away. The men were aged 35-47. They put Remzi in the first "Volkswagen" car, new type, with olive color and Tirana license plates, TR 2449 C (regular license plates) and fled quickly. Other cars were also attached to the aforementioned car.

- Immediately after five minutes, the employees of the company filed a report in Region No. 3 of the police, first by phone, then they submitted it in writing. Meanwhile, the police of Region No. 3, issued a search warrant for the car with the above-mentioned license plates and other persons, but until recently nothing was done.

- At 14.45 on the same day, the arresters (three people) returned to the scene in the same cars. One of them showed the criminal police document to the company worker and introduced himself as the head of the arresting group. He was 45-47 years old, with a southern dialect and with a characteristic feature his right arm was shorter (defective). They stayed at the place of arrest for about 45 minutes. In the presence of the workers, they did the check, they took the documents of the company's president's car, some packs of cigarettes, which they also exchanged with the company's workers, saying: "this is the nature of the police's work, we have taken Remziu for verification and we will release him soon. "

- They gone. The second time, the police of Region No. 3 were at the scene, standing around the company's premises. After a while, they received an order from the police station to leave there and return to the region. This police only took notes formally, with the motivation that Remziu was kidnapped and they are looking for him.

- On 23.10.1995, that is, after three days, a crime inspector from Region No. 3 and says that he was ordered to inform that Remzi Hoxha has been released from arrest. We had cigarettes and coffee with this inspector and then he left. But we waited in vain, because Remziu did not come. Then we went to Region No. 3 of the police and we asked for clarification on what the criminal police inspector told us. Dezhurni told us that the chief of the crime police was not there, but we could meet Zograf Q. He was the person who came to the workshop and told us that Remziu has been released. Yes, the police in the region told us that there is an order not to inform more. He sent us away saying that any other information would endanger his job, to make matters worse, his head as well...

This information of the crime inspector, who had only been on the job for two months, was given in the presence of six witnesses.

- On 24.10.1995, another crime police inspector, llir Gjeka, comes to the department, who says that Remziu should be released. After a while he comes a second time and says since he was not released, give me his generals.

- On 26.10.1995, we knocked on the doors of SHIK in Tirana, where they told us that they knew the case, but they could not help us. They directed us to be interested in central SHIK. There, by phone from the entrance gate, they told us that they had received a telegram from the family about this case and would inform us. We asked if they knew where Remziu is, but they didn't tell us anything. Neither is it here or there, or whether it was kidnapped or not.

- With telegrams, we immediately notified the competent official bodies: the President of the Republic, the Minister of Order, the Chairman of SHIK, the Albanian Embassy in Macedonia, the Democratic League of Kosovo, the Democratic Prosperity Party of the Albanians in Macedonia, the Independent Trade Union of Kosovo and Albania, hoping you would help us. This is how we addressed the Macedonian embassy in Tirana, as well as the head of the representation of the Office of the Republic of Kosovo in Tirana. We also informed the Helsinki Committee for the Protection of Human Rights in Albania, the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana and the Republic. From everyone, we still have no information to shed light on where Remzi Hoxha is.

- On 29.10.1995, the family contacts "Gazeta Shqiptare", but the newspaper does not authentically reflect the words of Remzi's family members.

- It should be noted that the ambassador of Albania in Skopje informed the family of Remzi that according to the information he has from the state bodies of Albania, Remzi Hoxha was kidnapped by unknown persons. The police authorities are looking for him and that other data will be announced in the future.

- On 10.11.1995, two SHIK inspectors came to the offices of the "Albatros" company, with Mr. Osmani lives with an associate. For the first time after three weeks of explanations, they asked to know how Remziu was taken. They told us that they will be interested in this case and will inform us, but there was never any news.

- On 13.11.1995, the crime inspectors Llir Zeka, Zograf Qullai and Alban Omari came to the company "Abatros" and to Remzi's house to get written statements from the workers and family members about what happened. Meanwhile, three weeks had passed.

... - We ask the aforementioned bodies to help in the successful resolution of this case! We don't want our family's problem to become the object of information tools outside Albania, as a bad stain on these spaces."

The accused as his kidnapper, Arben Sefgjini, remained until the end of 2013, an important director of the "Berisha" government, even though he was convicted by the court for involvement in the disappearance of Remzi Hoxha. The directly accused, Ilir Kumbaro, was arrested in Great Britain and is thought to have fled to Brazil, unable to be found. The event described with the testimonies of family members and workers clearly shows the direct involvement of the state police and SHIK structures in this story. After that, they never gave any answer. The family searched for their family member every day for twenty-five consecutive years. The trial against the culprits ended with half-hearted measures, without revealing where the body is, but blaming the Intelligence Service for its disappearance.
