A recent study notes that humans may have started consuming food cooked using fire as early as 780,000 years ago.

According to the BBC , a team consisting of researchers from Israel, Great Britain and Germany under the leadership of Iri Zohar from Tel Aviv University in Israel, discovered 780,000-year-old remains that look like carp in the north of the country.

The research says that the enamel crystals in the fish residue are enlarged.

It is estimated that the fish was not directly exposed to the fire, but was cooked at a low temperature.

The remains of the fish, about two meters long, were found at the excavation site around the Jordan River by Naam Goren-Inbar from the "Hebrew" University.

Goren-Inbar pointed out that cooking may not be limited to fish, but may also include various animals and plants.

The research further points out that tens of thousands of years of hunter-gatherer societies have lived in the region in question, while the region with clean water sources may provide clues to the migration route of early humans from Africa to the Near East and regions of others.

Scientists are of the opinion that the transition from uncooked to cooked food has had critical effects on human development and behavior.

Previous studies revealed that the remains of cooked food date back to 170,000 years before Christ.

The research was published in the scientific journal "Nature Ecology and Evolution".
