Today marks the 78th anniversary of the liberation of Tirana from Nazi Germany.
The big operation was one of the most important, harshest and most successful that UNÇSH units have carried out against the German forces and their collaborators for the liberation of the cities of Albania.
The liberation of the capital was entrusted to the I Assault Corps. The corps headquarters drew up a detailed operation plan based on the operational-strategic plan of the General Command.
The plan provided for the creation of an internal and external front in order to close and attack the German garrison inside Tirana.
The operation took place in three phases: the preparatory phase (September 12-October 28), the first attack phase (October 29-November 10) and the final attack phase (November 11-17). The mission operation for the liberation of Tirana ended with victory, after 19 days of fierce fighting inside the city, as well as along the roads leading to it. On November 17, Tirana was liberated.
The battle of Mushqeta played a special role in the success of the operation. The war for the liberation of Tirana had the character of a real frontal war, where the degree of organization of the UNÇSH was clearly seen. In the fight for the liberation of Tirana, a valuable contribution was made by the people of the capital, who strongly supported all the fights that took place in its neighborhoods and streets.
The following photos show some moments from that event.
