Former Foreign Minister Paskal Milo, speaking about his latest book on the show "Arnautistan", considers Enver Hoxha a great figure in Albanian history.
The historian points out that you can be a great figure even with the worst you can do.
Milo says that he has violated the myth of Enver Hoxha's supporters, regarding the facts that the former dictator was the first to start the war against Balli Kombëtar.
"Undoubtedly, Enver Hoxha, even for those who do not love him, and those who love him, is a great figure of Albanian history, this does not mean that he has a positive assessment, you can be great in the good and bad that you can do. We must acknowledge that communism brought innovation. First because they were young and had no prejudices. All the partisan girls were educated. Liri Gega was a teacher at the Queen Mother school, Nexhmije Hoxha a student. I have not left without mentioning (in the book) the merits in the National Liberation War. In his letters of October 1943, Enver Hoxha was responsible for starting the war against the National Front. It has affected many people who are sympathizers of Enver Hoxha. They are not detached from dogma, and I have violated their myth. They judge as a partisan, I as a historian.
Paskal Milo said that Enver Hoxha benefited and was trained at the same time by Miladin Popovic.
"Enver Hoxha also benefited from Miladin Popovic, but he also trained at the same time, and his thirst for political power increased. De facto began to play the role of leader. Ymer Dishnica was proposed to be elected, and Enver Hoxha was elected after him. Enver Hoxha's path from February 1942 when he became political secretary until May 1943 is a rising line. I think the ambition for power has taken off. He began to feel more confident and paved the way for becoming the leader of the Communist Party. "There was an internal predisposition to become a leader."
Milo further stated that the National Liberation War in Albania was not a civil war, but there may have been elements of it.
Milo said that "Mit'hat Frashëri openly admitted that he could not fight the Germans on the grounds that they did us honor with the Kosovo-Albania union", but according to the historian, the founder of Balli Kombëtar and his collaborators were wrong.
"The National Liberation War was not a civil war. There may have been elements of civil war. In a country occupied by the German occupier the main task and main objective is the struggle for liberation. There can be no war between Albanians under a foreign occupation, because the target is the foreign invader. This is a one-sided interpretation. I am not saying that there were no elements. But there was no frontal war between them. "As I claim that Enver Hoxha was the first to launch the attack on Balli Kombëtar, I wholeheartedly claim that Balli Kombëtar made the mistake of collaborating with the German occupier."
