Today, the Albanian police announced the search for three Romanian citizens, after it was found that they stole monetary amounts by interfering with computer systems, by producing cloned cards, stolen cards and by damaging ATMs, with strong tools in 2 different financial institutions in Tirana.
According to what the police announced, three Romanians have been identified and wanted: Florin Oprinoiu , 51 years old, Marian Mihai , 45 years old, Adrian Simoiu , 20 years old, all three residents of Romania.
It is known that the events took place on different dates where the Police managed to uncover 2 cases remaining in the attempt and 4 thefts of this nature, committed by these 3 people.
According to the police, the three wanted were able to clone ATM cards and managed to get about 5 million new ALL.
Not only the second-level banks, but also some citizens of the country have fallen victim to this scheme, where the perpetrators managed to clone their cards and then withdrew the sums of money.
The scheme they use in card cloning
Card cloning requires a device called a "Skimmer".
It is a card reader and is placed in ATMs by hackers to steal data.
They place the device in the place where the card is placed in ATMs, the data is read there and the cloned cards are then created.
Cloned cards can be used not only to withdraw cash, but also to make purchases.
Today, banks have set up "online" platforms, from where customers can perform various actions from their computers or phones.
E-banking has simplified things for citizens by saving them waiting time at bank counters, for actions related to monetary transactions.
But even this platform is not exempt from the danger that comes from cyber pirates.
If someone managed to enter your computer or smartphone through viruses, this means that your money in the bank account is also at risk.
What you need to do is to anticipate the danger before it is too late. Another danger comes from wireless internet waves.
How the Card Skimmer is used to produce cloned cards
The "Skimmer Card" device has approximately the shape of the ATM where it is installed.
A small camera is placed on its upper part, which copies the code or pin of the card.
Another device is placed in the place where the card is inserted, which copies the card number, personal number and other information.
Once the information is obtained, the hacker produces the cloned card of a customer whose data has been stolen.
Another bank card manufacturing device possessed by criminals serves this purpose.
