With a speech of neither meat nor fish, The Oblast half-voicedly announced his resignation from the post of Chairman of the Democratic Party, a decision he said he was taking with the conviction that he would serve the union of Democrats and the re-establishment of the party.
But more than a choice of free will and internal conviction that the time has come when he leaves, the departure of The Oblast from the chair that holds him as frozen, sometimes as a molten is expulsion.
His fate was decided on 6 March, when after the failure of efforts not to name it as a test for the result of the partial local elections brought out the seal and logo of the DP third force. However, it took Him two weeks to consider resigning.
Knowing all the forks of The Oblast's political records as opposition leader, when he has avoided the responsibilities of defeat, even calling them victories, this time more than for reflection may have been used at best to avoid resignation and at worst to find a dictating way out.
The resignation speech itself leaves many questions, ambiguities and contradictions of what the leader resigned with the declaration has already given full lyrical over these weeks, when speaking that he was ready for any decision-making.
First, Basha on the one hand announces his resignation and on the other hand says it will be the voice of the Democrats. How can the voice of the Democrats be the man that most of them refused on March 6th, only The Basha can know.
Second, resignation from such positions is an institution and as such there is a standard and official format, where the act is preceded by taking responsibility if this resignation arrives for non-realisation of objectives. Basha avoided this part, perhaps as he has since 2013, when he took over.
Third, the resignation speech leaves paths of return, whose form and way remains to be learned in the following days. Perhaps The Oblast will re-run for the post of party chairman, perhaps even in the face of Berisha. Here he can make a sphorco to win the race, perhaps even with the methods used during the two races of the past. But the difference this time is that it does not face Edward Selam and Agron Shehajn, but Sali Berisha, who since September has shaken his base under his feet.
These are reinforced by parallels with the speech after the 2017 defeat, when the PD received the lowest historical result. Faced with demands for resignation and the opening of the race for party chairman, Basha invented "self-freeze" at the time. He said he had frozen all the positions he gave himself as chairman and claimed that with this decision he was entering as equal to Edward Selam in the race. All this was done with the silent blessing of Sali Berisha.
But if in 2017 and 2021 with Salvini on the wing it was easily predicted the future of The Oblast, his half-voiced resignation this Monday makes the situation in the PD even more unpredictable, whose brakes seem likely to return through a bazaar under the mat, to the one who held it gracefully and mercifully for more than two decades.
