Rama told Yuri Kim how an Ambassador is treated

It was launched as a regular meeting and simple ceremony to announce a memorandum of understanding between the Agricultural University of Tirana and Michigan State University, but which ended with a speech with strong sarcastic and critical doses of Prime Minister Edi Rama towards Ambassador Yuri Kim, until he also compared him to a party committee secretary.

"I really liked the part that the rector said: "We guarantee you Mrs Ambassador...'I remembered the time when the Party Secretary came here and said to them the old dean: We guarantee you the fellow Secretary of the Party Committee that we will work for the party and the people to be proud of us", Rama said.

The phrase caused laughter in the hall, but although joked, the joke is half the truth. Ambassador Kim is strongly involved in Albania's political life, as much as she has been accused of behavior by the governor.

American ambassadors to Albania from politicians have heard over the years the music they have wanted in their ears, so Yuri Kim was rightly surprised by Rama's words, telling him that "what was wrong with him?".

And in the batons' path, Kim tells him that she was sure they had translated them wrongly, but Rama reinforced her stance by further ironizing. "Sure, of course!" he told her.

That Rama is an early critic of the deep involvement of US and EU embassies and ambassadors to Albania is not innovation. But if in the past this involvement rebukes him with more moderate and careful language, especially for the role ambassadors took in their efforts to sit in dialogue and agreement Albanian politics, this Friday's statement was more direct.

Rama's criticism seemed to target only the Afghan issue, but essentially seemed broader than that. But what did Rama say?

"I am very glad that afghan students here have found a space where they feel good. Soon they'll be across the ocean. I hope they don't get upset that they won't treat them as well as we treat them here, but they'll also learn not to treat others well and they'll be fine," he said.

Rama fell to the window to hear the door, telling Yuri Kim in his eyes that the treatment the US is doing to Albanians at the very least is not 'good treatment'.

"When it comes to standards and values then, that's where they give us nonstop all the time... yes, we take them with pleasure. If the work for values, standards and preaching has no day and night, we have them here give us with the utmost generosity what to do and when it comes to these concrete things give, i'm cycling more carefully than they have the deserts. They're not in a position to give you much," he said.

Here, the Prime Minister implies that when it comes to 'remembering' the US is not spared, but when it comes to concrete assistance, as in the case of Afghans for their refuge, factual assistance does not match the promise given.
