What is the Ministry of Agriculture not telling us about the bird flu situation?

The Ministry of Agriculture formalized this Sunday that it has so far discovered only one case of bird flu in our country.

This is the official statement and position, but there are several factors that suggest that the situation is much more alarming than that.

First, the statement of the Ministry of Agriculture, which advises citizens who meat and chicken eggs do not consume them without boiling them earlier by 70 degrees. This means that the preventative exit net for chickens and eggs infected with bird flu virus is cracked and they may be being sold in markets and shops, even consumed by citizens.

Second, there are two orders in the National Veterinary Authority series. The first order establishes a national crisis management centre. This centre, according to the order, will manage the situation created in the country's poultry.

The Agriculture Ministry's own investment in establishing this centre means that it is not a single case nor isolated with bird flu in Albania.

Third are reports in some media of poultry losses, in figures ranging from over half a million dead chickens in just a few weeks. The figure is not officially confirmed by the Ministry of Agriculture, but is unofficially confirmed by the market, where the price of eggs has increased by 30 to 50 percent.

The increase cannot be argued only with the overall increase in prices in the country, because poultry have entered the egg production peak and in past years, the price of an egg bean in this period went down to 14 leks, while currently up to 10 leks more expensive.

All these factors suggest that the Ministry of Agriculture is either not being honest with the figures reporting, or there is no figure, or accurate assessment of the situation on the ground, but only a perception and with the decision to establish an international crisis centre means that the situation is truly alarming.
