Albanians should not have high expectations from the new government-established board for controlling food prices.
Finance Minister Delina Ibrahimaj warned this at a media conference called at an unusual time this Friday.
After bemoaning the plight of the majority minority traders, Ibrahimaj told how they had promised not to earn so much, but would receive minimal profits, even some of them, according to Ibrahimaj, were ready to forego profits.
However, what could make the difference for lowering basket prices is the removal of VAT. But when asked by reporters, Ibrahimaj brought this down as an opportunity through an unanswered answer.
The minister was asked about the removal of VAT 20 percent for products, but she pretended she didn't understand and scoffed at the flour to cook a sour dough in response.
"We will not interfere with VAT and basket products, every country has its own taxation system. Last year we made a decision that affects most businesses and affects 95,000 small businesses where we raised the VAT threshold over 10 ml of money and tax profit over 14 ml. 95,000 businesses pay no tax and no VAT. They're products that are marketed mainly by these businesses. If we're going to refer to flour, 90 percent is flour that goes for the large consumption that's sold in bakeries, or the majority point. It's only a 10 percent that's sold by kilograms. Every consumer consumes more bread than flour per kilogram," Ibrahimaj said.
Chorba later clarified minister Frida Krivca, who threw over Serbian wheat and flour, when she said that under the agreement, 'big-hearted' Serbia will continue to keep us on bread.
Meanwhile, but at this conference, Minister Ibrahimaj also stood by the statement, according to which Albanians who receive 130-140 euros per month are not considered poor, saying it was based on statistics, but did not bring statistics.
"Today we are to talk about the crisis, the statement is a question i was asked about a statistical indicator. I have technicality in statistics. We can talk very long about this indicator, but today is not the moment for the way INSTAT rots the figures. Today is the time to talk about basket products," she said.
