Six months after his arrest, Ervin Mata is reported to have attempted to block his extradition from Brazil to Albania for the second time by appealing to Brazil's Supreme Court. However, Euronews journalist Thimi Samarxhiu learns that the court has refused to consider the "Cocaine King"'s second appeal.

In the decision taken by the panel of judges with Minister Alexandre de Moraes as rapporteur, eight days ago, the court reasoned that the defense had not presented sufficient arguments to question the previous decision taken in mid-September, when the Brazilian Court approved his extradition.

On the other hand, Ervin Mata's lawyers are reported to have raised claims related to the asylum request in Brazil, a police investigation in this country, as well as the jurisdictional competence of the Albanian authorities.

In these circumstances, the decision taken on October 20 of this year marks the end of the phase of judicial objections addressed so far. Meanwhile, the extradition of Ervin Mata to Albania is expected to be carried out, which is closely related to the fulfillment of other procedures requested by the Brazilian authorities.

Earlier, the Federal Supreme Court had approved Albania's request for the extradition of Ervin Mata. Regardless of the circumstances, the final decision on his surrender does not depend only on the judicial procedure, as the assessment of the President of Brazil is also required.

"Boli" as he is otherwise known is a well-known name in Albanian justice, linked for years to investigations into organized crime and drug trafficking. His name became known to the public after the serious incident of 2018 in the former Blloku area of Tirana, where Fabian Gaxha lost his life during a gunfight between rival criminal groups.

According to SPAK investigations, Mata is suspected of being one of the main organizers of an international cocaine trafficking network, which extended from Albania to South America and several European Union countries.

Ervin Mata was declared wanted in November 2023, following 11 arrest warrants issued by the Special Prosecution Office, for a criminal group operating in the trafficking of cocaine and hashish from South America, murders and money laundering.

In the first months of 2023, the peripheral media reported that the former partner of singer Elvana Gjata and one of the people involved in the event that was named "The Massacre of the Former Block", had disappeared without a trace in Bolivia. The media alluded that a few months after the disappearance without a trace of Ervis Martinaj, Ervin Mata had also suffered the same fate in Bolivia.

However, the investigations, accusations and transcribed conversations that SPAK has obtained from European authorities have brought the businessman from Tirana out of his "hideout". Ervin Mata was part of the group of Erzen Breçani's son and had constant communications on the "SKY" communication network.

Shortly after an international arrest warrant was issued for him, a final video of Ervin Mata on the run was released. The footage refuted claims that the businessman from the capital had disappeared in Bolivia and nothing was known about his fate, because Ervin Mata himself was showing the opposite on camera.
