The street sweeper who won €168 million in the EuroMillions in Belgium fears for his life.
Since last Friday, our country has once again had a EuroMillions jackpot winner: the lucky winner can expect to see over 153 million euros in their bank account.
But whether that will make him happier remains to be seen. The biggest winner our country has ever had, a street sweeper from Brussels, fears for his life.
When he won the gigantic sum of 168 million euros in October last year, the man continued to work for two more days at Net Brussel. He then failed to show up for work and is said to have fled to Germany. According to the newspaper La Capitale, he has now returned to live in his country.
"But he fears that people with bad intentions have targeted him," his friends say.
Q., a street sweeper originally from Kosovo, regrets all the noise that followed his victory. Since then, he has had to give up many things.
"Especially he can't go to see his favorite club, FC Kosova in Brussels," one of his friends told the newspaper.
" They should leave him alone. The more information that is made public about him, the more danger he is in ," he says.
Since winning the big money, he has only returned to his old neighborhood twice. And he did so with a bodyguard.
"They could blackmail him or kidnap him," his friend says worriedly.
"He came to FC Kosova because people here know him and because he knows that no one will bother him. But now that it has become known that he continues to come here, I don't believe he will return anytime soon. If we want to meet him, we will have to arrange meetings in secret."
According to La Capitale, the man has bought a house a few dozen kilometers from Brussels. According to people close to him, moving abroad was never an option.
Fifteen years ago, he left Kosovo because of the war and has since become very attached to the country that welcomed him. Moreover, he does not want to “uproot” his four children.
"He's not going to move abroad. His whole life is here," says his friend.
" His children grew up here and still study here. He can travel as much as he wants, but he will not leave Belgium ."
