Albania has the lowest speeding fines in Europe, at just €9.50. Our country ranks fifth least strict on the continent for punishing drivers, with a severity rating of 26.94 points out of 100 overall.

The study, conducted by Swiss website Vignetteswitzerland.com, analyzed data from official government sources and national transport authorities to compare driver penalties across Europe, including speeding fines, seatbelt violations, red light violations, vignette requirements*, drink-driving and blood alcohol content.

Fines are higher in the region, with Kosovo leading the way with harsher punishments.

The countries with the harshest sentences in Europe

Denmark tops the list with a severity score of 83.81 points, having significant fines for speeding (€135) and one of the highest for drink driving (€670.27).

Norway ranks second with a score of 82.46. This country applies the highest fine for using a mobile phone while driving at 867 euros.

Spain comes in third with a score of 75.00, which imposes a fine of 200 euros for speeding and mobile phone use.

Slovenia and the Netherlands round out the top five with scores of 71.53 and 70.79 respectively. Both countries have particularly high fines for using a mobile phone while driving.

France, ranked eighth, imposes the highest fine for drunk driving at 4,500 euros, significantly higher than other European countries, showing a particularly strict stance on this criminal offense.

The Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Azerbaijan are the only European countries to implement a zero-tolerance policy, with a 0.00% blood alcohol content (BAC) limit, setting the strictest standard for drink-driving in Europe. monitor
