In city centers, on the corners of neighborhoods, or on the side of streets where people and cars pass... there are 26,600 bars and cafes in Albania.

The Albanians' favorite business is most widespread in Tirana with over 8,300 coffee shops, followed by Vlora, Durrës, Fier and Elbasan. The list is followed by Shkodra, Korça, Lezha, Berat, Gjirokastra, Dibra and Kukës.

"We all know that Albania has the highest number of bars, cafes and restaurants. There is a recent report stating that after the pandemic in the world there was a contraction in the number of bars and cafes, while in Albania they increased," Shpëtim Agolli, an expert on economics, told A2.

Albania also breaks records in terms of spending in bars and clubs. On average, an Albanian spends 270 euros a year, the highest level in the Region, Europe and beyond.

"Albanians appear to like spending time in cafes more than most European countries, while Kosovo ranks third, with 11.2% of entities that offer food and beverage services. Countries that have their economy linked to tourism activity rank lower, such as Montenegro (11%), Cyprus (10.8%), Spain (10.6%), and Greece (10%)," Agolli emphasized.

Cafes and restaurants make up 16 percent of enterprises in the economy, employing about 50,000 individuals. About 64 percent of those working in bars and restaurants are men. The sector is among the most important for employment, compared to the textile and footwear industry, which has a total of about 55,000 employees.
