The price of oil in Elbasan has suddenly increased by 10 lek per liter today, surpassing even the selling prices in Tirana.
From an observation conducted at several retail outlets in Elbasan on Saturday afternoon, a liter of diesel has reached a price of up to 195 lekë.
The day before, a liter of diesel was selling for around 182-185 lekë, the same price for gasoline.
While today, at some gas stations, the price has immediately increased by 10 lek/liter, which raises suspicions of abuse by fuel distributors.
Meanwhile, in the capital, diesel continues to be sold at an average of 182 lek per liter. At some gas stations this Saturday, there is a slight increase to 185 lek.
Within a few days, the retail price of oil in the capital city doubled.
Fuel traders justify this increase with the rise in oil prices on international stock exchanges, as a result of tensions and war in the Middle East.
A few days ago, the Albanian government held a meeting with hydrocarbon companies about the current situation.
In a closed-door meeting between several ministries and sector representatives, the impact that the war could have on the Albanian market was discussed. So far, there has been no decision on whether the government will intervene in the market or not.
