
Six foreign companies are candidates for project preparation, design review and public procurement support of the Vorë–Hani i Hoti railway. The Albanian Railway has announced the winners, who passed the first stage of the tender, while referring to the list, 3 of the companies are Italian, 1 Greek, 1 Danish and 1 Turkish.
The procurement procedure, which takes place through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, will pass the second stage, where the winner will be announced who will provide the required consultancy.
Meanwhile, only after the preparation of the final project, the project can be tendered for the start of field works. The total cost for the rehabilitation of the Vorë - Hani i Hoti railway is estimated at 373.15 million euros, while the financing structure for this project is divided between loans granted by the EBRD and the European Investment Bank, a grant from the European Union and VAT coverage from the budget. of the state. The EU grant amounts to 137.9 million euros, the EBRD loan, 98.75 euros, while the EIB loan, 120 million.
The rehabilitation of the Vorë - Hani i Hoti railway is expected to bring a number of benefits in terms of passenger and goods transport, but also the environment. Meanwhile, the new railway line is expected to allow train speeds of 100 km/h. Currently, the operation of this line has been interrupted due to the conditions and lack of security.
