Nearly 90 thousand pensioners without bonus in January, Ministry of Economy:

Nearly 12 percent of 763,000 pensioners remain outside the monthly bonus scheme, according to official figures from those

who benefited during January. Over 36 thousand citizens who have a pension of over 40 thousand lekë were added to the 54 thousand others who were penalized due to the scheme.

The 1,800 lek bonus per month is only received by those who have retired from urban life with full years of work but who do not receive more than 40,000 lek per month. Similarly, those who have a partial urban pension but do not exceed 22,000 lek receive 800 lek. Meanwhile, rural pensions must not exceed 18,000 lek in order to benefit from the 1,000 lek monthly bonus.

But not only that. The ceilings set do not play in some cases the full benefit of the bonus. A citizen who receives a rural pension in the amount of 17 thousand and 500 lek does not benefit from the 1 thousand lek bonus, but only receives 500 lek, since the ceiling set by the government, in this case of 18 thousand lek, cannot be exceeded.

According to official figures provided by Report TV, out of the approximately 762,740 pensioners in Albania, 672,982 of them received the monthly bonus in January. Of these, only 33% of beneficiaries received 1,800 lek, while the majority received less.

If the scheme remains as it is, the number of pensioners who will not benefit will increase in 2027, as the monthly bonus values ​​will double. But in an official response to Report TV, the Ministry of Economy stated that the scheme will be reviewed, but not the ceiling of 40 thousand lek.

"Regarding 2027, yes, these ceilings will be subject to review as part of the ongoing analysis of social policies and social security reform. The compensation scheme will continue to apply to pensions up to 40,000 lek per month, while the specific benefit bands and the compensation amount may be reviewed, depending on: inflation trends, the financial sustainability of the scheme and the recommendations of international experts," says the Ministry of Economy.

Meanwhile, the government has decided to also provide the year-end bonus and has included it in the list of acts that it will approve within the fall of this year.
