The return of the triple tango (excluding SPAK)
Lulzim Basha after winning the elections for the head of the DP, July 29, 2023

The old saying goes that it takes two to tango. The definition goes to the dance halls, but in the political life of Albania, the party tango has been played in threes for a long time. At least since January 2022, when the Democrats decided to destroy the party building, its coat of arms and its seal. If the first one, the building, was taken by force from Berisha, the other two, the coat of arms and the seal, will remain with the new and old mayor Lulzim Basha.

The re-election of Basha at the head of the official DP marks an expected development, which dates back to long before Luli's wanderings around Albania wearing Zelenski's green shirts, to preach old concepts, ideas that have been worn out and trampled on by him himself. when he was the head of the party, and which today attract the attention of the few who watch the news from the couch at home.

In view of the power play within the opposition, today there are few people who would bet two thousand old lek, that the re-elected Basha would be able to overturn the ratio of 500 thousand to less than 40 thousand that was decided between the Reestablishment (plus the Party of Freedom) on one side and the official PD on the other. The percentages of the PD of Alibeaj on May 14 also had the bad taste left by serial loser Lulzim Basha on the right.

Finally in our market. A natural preparation that improves hearing and is the biggest enemy of tinnitus and ear infections.

However, Luli took back the office and will try to keep it as he knows. In other words, mostly vegetating, and trying to find a gap between the giant Rama, tired of power, and the eternal couple, full of wrinkles and personal problems, Berisha-Meta. This surprising tripartite tango will fuel the country's political fable from now on. With eyes from the door of SPAK!

Lulzim Basha never really ran away from the post of party chairman. When he left PD with a TV statement, in the middle of the fight with Berisha, he was de facto the head of the party again since the resignation was not filed in court.

Like the departure, the re-election a few hours ago was formal. In the race against a completely unknown opponent, he created a fast approach lane to the office of the chairman of the official PD, but in contrast to the moment of self-suspension, he is finding the PD with 37 thousand voters (in the elections of May 14), instead of the 622 thousand votes that the Democratic Party received two years ago, in the parliamentary elections. Beyond the fact that he can boast from morning to dinner with the coat of arms and the official seal of the largest Albanian right-wing party, his real weight in politics today is that of the first digit, not the second.

But Basha has proven in the past that he knows how to calmly chew being the second, even the third. One of the strongest and fairest criticisms leveled at him is that of being a perennial number two, not an ambitious fighter for the top spot in the race.

However, for Basha, just like for Rama, Berisha or Meta, September of this year has a more mysterious appearance than other autumnal seasons of politics. SPAK, the real elephant in the middle of the room, has entered the field with full rights. And Luli, like the others, must get used to this new and unpredictable actor.

Being in the opposition is no guarantee of who or what, because even he, as a politician who has already served three times as a minister, mayor of Tirana and head of the opposition for eight years, has his "skeletons" in the closet.

Lulzim Basha finds a changed office of the chairman of the official DP. Much more modest, far from the SHQUP building and facing many unknowns today.

Still better in the front row of politics than hopping between Albania, the Netherlands or some boring holiday destination. He is not of retirement age. But neither the ambition for prime minister. Tamam is a complementary figure, from what Rama and Berisha need now.
