Tribute to Engineer Murat Klosin

Yesterday, on February 6, 2025, one of the most prominent specialists and figures in hydrotechnics and reclamation (water improvements) in Albania, the Senior Scientific Associate, Eng. Murat Klosi, was sent to his final resting place.

 I am honored, but I also feel it is my duty, on behalf of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Albania, to express two heartfelt words, as a tribute in these painful days for the passing of this distinguished specialist of our country.

I was lucky enough to know him since the beginning of 1972 (53 years ago) at one of the many reclamation sites that had been set up and were already in place almost throughout Albania, where work was being done on the construction of many hydrotechnical works (swamp drainage canals and irrigation canals, gravity dams of various sizes, for the creation of the necessary reservoirs for irrigation, etc.). And, I can say with conviction that the contribution, commitment and often even the presence of Eng. Klos in these works were always considerable.

It was at this time, in 1970, with the initiative of Eng. Murat Klosi, that the Institute for Reclamation Studies and Projects (ISPB) was established and created, where Eng. Klosi was appointed Director of this Institute.

There are dozens and dozens of projects and drawings of hydrotechnical works (mainly for reclamation and irrigation) where the stamps of these projects also bear the signature of Eng. Murat Klos, not only as the head of the Institute but also as the actual designer of many of these works.

Without exaggeration, I would say that the list of these works is quite long, but in these lines I would mention that:

       - Eng. Murat Klosi was the creator and designer of the Mallakastra Irrigation through the Lumara Reservoir Dams No. 1 and Lumara Reservoir Dam No. 2, as well as a system of irrigation canals with a length of several tens of km. It should be noted that the Lumara Reservoir Dam No. 1 is a 60 m high dam and is the highest dam in Albania as a dam in the irrigation system.

        Importantly, and currently, the design of the Farka reservoir in Tirana, authored by Eng. Klos, has turned that area of ??Tirana into a very attractive area for the residents of the capital.

       For his research and scientific activity, by Decision of the High Attestation Commission, Eng. Murat Klos was awarded the scientific title: "Senior Scientific Associate", and by Decision of the Council of Ministers, he was awarded the First Degree Republic Prize.

Also, the Municipal Council of Mallakastra has awarded him the title "HONOR OF MALLAKASTRA", 

For me, but also for many friends and colleagues in this field, the devotion and dedication of Eng. Klos to the study, design and often even close monitoring of the implementation of works, in a series of important hydrotechnical works built throughout our country, have always been an example of inspiration and reference, which I would not like to forget but I would like to suggest that these virtues be an example of inspiration for our generations as well.

It is with deep sadness that I bid farewell to Engineer Klos, but with full conviction that his work will not be forgotten.
