A fire that engulfed a low-vegetation part in the territory of the Prespa National Park in Pustec continues to remain active due to the steep terrain and the lack of passageways.
The Mayor of Pustec, Pali Kolefski, said that the intervention was immediate from the first moment of the alert, but the drought and atmospheric conditions favored the spread of the flames.
"In the field were the firefighters of our municipality, those of Pogradec, employees of public services and the protected area. We are coordinating to continue the intervention in the early hours of the morning, as specialists estimate that it will be more efficient," Kolefski stated.
He clarified that the burned area is considerable, but due to the rugged terrain and dense vegetation, an exact figure cannot yet be given. The first suspicions on the cause of the fire speak of negligence or deliberate arson, an issue that will be proven by the investigations of the relevant structures.
