Scandal / Three large pits in the Illyrian tombs of Selca, fall prey to illegal
Illyrian tombs of Selca

In the archaeological area A of the Illyrian tombs of Selca, illegal excavations have been found by people looking for objects of archaeological value or precious metals.

A resident of the area reported to the police that pits were opened in this area by unidentified persons, while the control of the field revealed that there were three large pits in the area.

On the other hand, archaeologists point out that these pits are made by professional archaeologists for personal gain.

According to archaeologist Florenc Cenolli, the hand that committed the crime is a professional in the field of archaeology.

"Unfortunately we are dealing with a clandestine excavator, it is illegal excavations, it is within the archaeological area of the monumental tombs of Selca. The municipal authority and the police have been informed. This is the hand of a professional digger.

He is knowledgeable at a professional level. They are unique tombs in the region, immediate attention must be paid to take the necessary measures from the regional directorate and the ministry in cooperation with the municipality", says archaeologist Florenc Cenolli for the Klan.

According to archaeologists, the damage has been done recently, and it seems that treasure trackers have been working for days without being seen by anyone. This is not the first case, but the ninth in a row.

"It is not enough just to raise awareness, but to take measures. It is a worrying phenomenon as we do not have the right capacities to stay with employees all the time, it was done at midnight. The police must be on alert for these problems," says archaeologist Florenc Cenolli.

Despite these developments, the Pogradec police, in the reaction made this Tuesday, emphasizes that during the control of the territory, no excavated area was found
