Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in Albania.

According to the latest data from INSTAT, diseases of the circulatory system accounted for 52.9% of total deaths in 2024, up from 51.7% in 2023.

But what are some of the factors that influence heart disease according to medical specialists?

"The main causes of cardiovascular diseases are several. They are mainly age, high fat, hypertension, diabetes, smoking, sedentary lifestyle, drinking alcohol, obesity," cardiologist Nevila Çaushi told Vizion Plus.

Cardiologist Nevila Çaushi highlights some of the most common symptoms of cardiovascular diseases, while saying that there is no shortage of cases of young patients.

"Patients with cardiovascular disease come from a young age. We have had cases where patients have been around 40 years old with heart attacks. Young people consume a lot of energy drinks, one of the risk factors. Meanwhile, these young people who consume coffee or various drugs have a much higher probability of having cardiovascular problems than people who do not consume them. A chest discomfort different from normal, a heaviness, a pain in the chest, a feeling of immediately going to a cardiologist to do an evaluation of the heart or even the blood vessels."

High temperatures further increase heart problems, so doctors advise taking extra care.

"To live a more active life, a life of physical activity, not to consume tobacco or alcohol. In the summer, patients have more problems with fluctuations in blood pressure values ??or general condition. The high temperatures themselves dilate blood vessels and cause blood pressure to drop. Drinking water, staying in cool environments."

During 2024, 22,102 deaths were recorded in Albania, marking an increase of 3.8% compared to 2023.
