An Albanian, suspected of being involved in a murder that happened 14 years ago in Germany, has fallen into the hands of the Dutch police.
According to foreign media reports, the Albanian was caught at the Rotterdam airport, while he was extradited to Germany, where he had an international arrest warrant.
The incident for which the Albanian is accused happened in 2010, when the dead body of an Italian, 43 years old at the time, was found on the side of a highway in Leverkusen.
It is learned that the Albanian was involved in the violent death of the victim, while he cooperated with another person, 54 years old, against whom an international arrest warrant was issued, but he had already died.
Initially, the crime could not be solved, but in 2022, Cologne police investigators for "cold cases" reopened the case. "Cold cases" are crimes that remain unsolved for a long time.
The tracks have been re-examined using new forensic technology.
The genetic traces discovered in the body led to the Albanian and the man who died, the police said.
The visibly tattooed dead man was discovered in January 2010 and quickly identified.
The 43-year-old Italian had been living alone in an apartment in Cologne since November 2009. According to reports at the time, he was probably beaten to death.
Police and the public prosecution said at the time that the body was in a blue garbage bag, from the feet to the waist. According to the police, investigations continue into other possible persons involved and the background of the murder.
