Salaries for teachers are delayed, Lama: They should have been due on January 4

New year, old problems. Even though the date is January 10, the teachers still don't have the salaries for the month of December.

An annual problem faced by several professions in the administration, mainly health and education, which await the payment of the installment from the treasury. It is the teachers' union that raises the concern, which the General Directorate of Pre-University Education says it will address in record time, starting today. The delay in passing salaries to administration, not just teachers, is a recurring problem every January.

Teachers point the finger of accusation at the treasury, while the ministry usually plays ping pong accusing schools of not bringing the list of employees on time along with the detailed breakdown of their budgets due to official holidays.

In the "News 24" studio, the director of the Independent Education Union for Tirana, Alma Lama, revealed some of the problems that worry teachers, starting with the delayed salary at the beginning of the year.

"Salaries should have been paid on January 4-5. The economic sector must have transferred the December salary to the treasury. It is the treasury that is delaying it. We had to have the salaries. It is not an unprecedented situation. Always in the month of January we have a delay that goes for many days. I think that the economic sector should have passed the December salary to the treasury, it is the latter that is delaying it". This is a concern raised by teachers, but in the corridors, not openly. Lama called on them to complain to the "digital teacher" as well as to raise their voice about things that bother them.

The director of human resources in the General Directorate of pre-university education, Fiqir Çifliku, responded to the union's concern within the day, accepting the salary delay as an annual problem, which will be resolved very soon. "The situation is annual for the January salary. For 20 years, the treasury has been operating in a concentrated manner. On the 4th-6th, intensive work was done on the preparation of salaries and a part of the offices took the salaries to the treasury on the 5th and a part on the 6th. This situation is completely exhausted within the next day. Tomorrow (today) there will be in the account not only the salary but also the amount that the government has determined in the amount of 10 or 20 thousand lek". Teachers' salaries are not paid on a fixed date, but on a rolling basis, according to cities. Usually, from the 2nd to the 4th or 5th of December.
