A Kosovo Albanian has been released after 12 years as a prisoner of the Assad regime in Syria.

He is a citizen with the initials A.SH from the village of Secishte, Hani Elezit.

Security expert Bedri Elezi also spoke about this, saying that he had not contacted his family for 12 years.

Furthermore, Elezi said during a television interview that A.SH, after his release, informed his family that he is alive, healthy and well and is eagerly awaiting the conditions for his repatriation.

Elezi also told his story in detail, explaining that 12 years ago, in an attempt to escape Assad's forces, he had jumped from a high bridge and when he fell, he broke his legs. He was then captured and placed in prison, and his family has had no information about his fate since then.

"He is from the Municipality of Hani i Elezit and had gone to Syria in 2012. In fact, I had communicated with his family and told them that he was in prison in Sinaia and that he was alive. It was hard to believe us, and we even had cases where family members opposed us, saying, be careful, we have no information at all about our relative."

Further, Elezi said that this person had been in prison for 12 years and in an attempt to escape Assad's forces had jumped from a high bridge and when he fell he broke his legs and they had caught him and put him in prison and his family had no information about his fate and this young man he spoke to his family and they were told that he was healthy and well," said expert Elezi.

"We have around 60 citizens of the Republic of Kosovo who are in areas that were under Assad's control, who are family members. I even remember we had an effort with Haradinaj's Foreign Ministry to repatriate them, and as part of these efforts, they had waited for about two months in a city near the border with Turkey to enter Turkey and then find a way to be repatriated, but it was impossible and they are still in Syria," Elezi added.
