Russia has sent a request to the Albanian authorities asking for the extradition of 33-year-old Svetlana Timofoeva.

She was arrested at the Gramsci Military Plant on August 20, along with fellow Russian Mikhail Zori and Ukrainian Fedis Alpatov on suspicion of having come on an espionage mission.

The request arrived at the Prosecutor's Office of Elbasan about two weeks ago, where it is said that Svetlana Timofoeva in 2018 was involved in the theft of secret state documents from a Russian institution, for which no other details are given. Despite the fact that this criminal offense was committed in 2018, the arrest warrant for the 33-year-old woman was issued only a few days after her arrest in Albania.

Sources indicate that the extradition request has not been officially taken to the court, as the legality and convention are being verified.

Svetlana Timofoeva, Mikhail Zori and Fedis Alpatov, continue to be in prison with the measure given by the court of Elbasan, the prison sentence was also upheld by the Durrës Appeal on September 20. Prosecutor of Elbasan Kreshnik Ajazi brought the charges for the criminal offences, "Assault due to duty", "Giving secret information", and "Providing information", carried out in collaboration.

To this day, Svetlana Timofoeva has denied the accusations of espionage, but claims to be a blogger. She is kept in the women's prison of Tirana, but for a period of three months she stayed in the prison hospital, from where she used the time to learn Albanian.
