Belgian authorities today handed over to Italian authorities the Albanian arrested on May 21 as part of Operation "Bridge".
The operation, coordinated by the Bari DIA in synergy with the Albanian authorities, is part of a wider investigation that has already led to the issuance of 52 preliminary detention orders issued by the Bari GIP at the request of the local District Anti-Mafia Directorate (an investigation carried out at the preliminary investigation stage, which requires subsequent procedural verification in the interrogation with the defense).
The capture of the Albanian citizen was made possible thanks to the decisive contribution of the International Police Cooperation Service and the European network ENFAST (European Network of Active Fugitive Search Teams), through the cooperation between the Italian, Belgian and Luxembourg FAST Teams.
The transnational investigative activity, aimed at finding and capturing the man, allowed the Luxembourg FAST Team to conduct a pursuit activity to the border with Belgium, where the wanted man was tracked down on the evening of May 20.
The arrested man was taken into custody by Belgian authorities and today was officially handed over to Italy.
