Astrit Sinanaj, the man accused of the attempted murder with 1 kg of tritol of businessman Fuad Verzivolli in Elbasan, has not been able to enjoy freedom.

Sinanaj, through his lawyers, has claimed that the terms of detention have ended, and as a result, he has requested the removal of the security measure from "prison arrest" to "house arrest".

His request was reviewed yesterday at the Court of Appeal in Durrës, where after 4 hours of legal discussion and calculations of Sinanaj's days in custody, the panel decided to overturn his request for release from the cell.

In January 2021, the case against Astri Sinanaj was returned for retrial after, using Article 428/ç of the Code of Criminal Procedure, after the Court of Appeal at this time found procedural deficiencies in the lack of reasoning for the decision.

As a result, the file was returned again for a retrial from the beginning, while already the defendant Astrit Sinanaj had requested to be released from the cell with the claim that the deadlines had expired.

Astrit Sinanaj was sentenced in July 2020, by the Elbasan court, which partially accepted the request of prosecutor Xhelian Seferaj, declaring Astrit Sinanaj guilty and sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The latter is accused of 4 criminal offenses of "Deliberate murder carried out in a dangerous way for the lives of many people", "Possessing explosive weapons without permission", "Destruction of property with explosives" and "Removing the prisoner from the country of standing".

For Sinanaj, the prosecution requested a sentence of 30 years in prison.

While the other person accused in this case for the charge of "Not knowing the crime", Thanas Thoma, a former casino employee in Elbasan, has been sentenced to 10 months in prison.

For Thoma, the prosecution requested in its claim, a sentence of 1.6 years of imprisonment.

According to the prosecutor's file, Sinanaj had tried to kill businessman Fuad Verzivolli with a tritol.

Verzivolli, the target of this assassination, stated during his testimony in court that the tritol attack against him was financed by Florenc Çapja, since he has no acquaintance with Astrit Sinanaj.

On May 6, 2017 in Elbasan, 1 kg of tritol C4 was placed under the car of businessman Fuad Verzivolli./OraNews
