The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime has conducted a joint operation with Finnish authorities against several criminal groups involved in drug trafficking.

The head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, said that the groups were involved in trafficking significant quantities of synthetic drugs, cocaine, marijuana, etc.

He said that this operation is clear evidence that crime has extended its activity to the Nordic countries, including Finland.

"This investigation represents not only a significant success in the fight against organized crime, but also an important achievement in the history of SPAK. The creation of a joint investigative unit between SPAK and the Finnish authorities. This cooperation is clear evidence that organized crime has extended its activity to the Nordic countries, including Finland. We have been given the opportunity to target several criminal drug trafficking groups, including cocaine, synthetic drugs and marijuana. The results are the fruit of long and joint work ," Dumani said at the press conference.

"But at the same time, the investigation is an indicator of the trust that Nordic law enforcement authorities have placed in our justice and law enforcement structures," Dumani said.

Special Prosecutor, Alfred Shehu, announced that SPAK requested 11 security measures of arrest with imprisonment, which have been accepted by the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime.

Shehu announced that nine people have been executed as a result of security measures, while two other people are still being sought.

During the implementation of security measures, eight vehicles, mobile phones and many documents were seized, a significant part of which is considered valuable for the investigation and contains data on the criminal communication of the persons under investigation themselves.

Meanwhile, the director of the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation began his speech with a thank you to SPAK and all colleagues in Albania, after the joint anti-drug operation.

He stressed that the massive investigation began about two years ago in Finland, where about 55 people were arrested.

"As part of the investigation, around 300 kg of narcotics were seized, trafficked from Spain and the Netherlands. The total amount of drugs seized was 170 kg of amphetamine, 10 kg of cocaine, 100 kg of marijuana and several narcotics tablets ," he said.

According to him, investigations have revealed that the main leaders of this trafficking network were Albanian citizens.
