An Albanian citizen was detained by the Greek police in Ioannina, during an attempt to buy some antique items from different periods.
The Albanian introduced as "Jani" but with the name Nardi aged 48, had made a deal with a couple of Greeks from Ioannina, 59-year-old Aleksia and 64-year-old Ilias, to buy antiques such as amphorae from the Roman period, some icons medieval and a silver coin of the fourth century.
The Greek couple declared to the police that the ancient items were inherited from their ancestors, while the amphorae were found during diving at the bottom of the sea. They also seized metal detectors used by illegal treasure hunters in rich archaeological lands.
The Greeks said that the Albanian had told them that his name was "Nardi" and that he had been sent by a well-known collector in Albania. They said that they had agreed to sell the antiques to the Albanian, after he had offered them a satisfactory amount of money.
According to the Greek police, the Albanian also has drug charges.
