"Albania is closer to the EU", Ambassador Silvio Gonzato: The fight
Silvio Gonzato

The EU ambassador in our country, Silvio Gonzato, has stated that Albania is closer to the European Union. During a meeting with donors, where the Minister of the Interior, Taulant Balla, was also present, the European diplomat said that the fight against organized crime and corruption requires the coordination of many factors.

According to Ambassador Gonzato, the implementation of laws remains important, while he emphasized that the EU "supports Albania not only with funds but also with expertise".

"Improving donor coordination in this journey also requires new steps in this direction. This is a good step. The EU will support you in this step, Albania is closer to the EU and this is the reason why we are here today", said the ambassador among other things.

Gonzado:  Embassies like EU and beyond EU partners join efforts regarding reforms to implement the rule of law.

A safer country attracts investors and fosters economic development. We will also talk about the challenges faced by Albania regarding the infiltration of criminal groups.

The risk assessment for terrorist financing and money laundering in 2023 identifies Albania as a high-risk area.

The fight against organized crime and corruption requires the coordination of many factors from civil society and private actors.

The law on the recovery of criminal assets is being discussed with the relevant services. An asset recovery office to be established soon.

This remains the implementation of the laws and we support Albania not only with funds but also with expertise.

I request a coordination of donor assistance.

Improving donor coordination in this journey also requires new steps in this direction. This is a good step. The EU will support you in this step, Albania is closer to the EU and that is why we are here today.
