About 22 percent of children in Albania lived last year on the border of poverty or social exclusion.
A report by the international organization, "Save the Children", shows that the pandemic, but also other climatic and geopolitical developments are threatening the future of children, especially in poor countries.
"It turns out that there are at least 100 to 150 thousand children in Albania who live below the basic minimum of poverty. There are families that live on 1 to 25 thousand lek per day, which should be enough for the parents, but also the children, who can be up to three or four," says Altin Hazizaj from the Center for the Protection of Children's Rights.
The report raises concerns that children in rural areas face difficulties in learning, while those with disabilities and from the Roma community continue to have limited access to services.
Also, poverty is serving as a catalyst for criminal acts among children.
"I see that in the short-term and long-term that the negative phenomena of violence or criminality among children will continue to be not only present, but also more pronounced", adds Hazizaj.
According to the Save the Children report, the number of children in poverty in Europe has reached almost 20 million, while Spain and Romania are the two most problematic countries in this regard, reports A2.
