Today, on June 16, 2026, Alban Shehu's book "PRAYER" (Essays), published on the 45th anniversary of his birth, was released. On this occasion, I am publishing the book's preface.
It was November 25, 1992. Wednesday. A cold late autumn day, filled with gloomy clouds ready to burst into torrential rain at any moment. The children of the “Jeronim De Rada” school in Tirana, after lining up in front of the school, entered the classrooms... The fifth grade students had an essay. Teacher Sofika Konomi (Çobani) gave the essay topic. The topic was simple: “An incident in class”. You, Alban, were sitting on the first bench. You concentrated and did the essay that the teacher highly appreciated. You were 11 years old. That same school year, you also did several other essays, five of which your passionate teacher had carefully preserved and 10 years later published in a booklet...
My son! I knew and recognized your intellect and intelligence very well since childhood, but I have never spoken so openly as today. Certainly not publicly. I imagine, my son, that you would be angry, you would not approve of this behavior of mine. Because you did not want a public, superficial appearance, while you had your own plans and positive ambitions to achieve perfection in your life. But I have no other way. After I found your manuscripts, I wanted to publicly reveal them. Will you forgive me? I do not know. But I have no other way, my son!
On the day of your funeral, while we, your parents, were in mourning, many remembered these words of your brother, Genci, who spoke on behalf of the family and which I am briefly summarizing here:
"My irreplaceable brother, Albani, was a piece of divinity who walked the earth. Blessed are those who were lucky enough to know him closely and to be his fellow travelers. They have felt his great heart and spirit, his positivity. Albani was open-minded and direct in his relationships with those around him. He worked selflessly, loved justice and truth, and never compromised with injustice!"
I am not adding a single word here, as there is no exaggeration. Such was Albani. He thought and worked with an almost utopian goal to make this world better, even through his example. He sacrificed a lot for this ideal deeply embedded in him. In this context, I am also attaching here the considerations that many friends and acquaintances, Albani's and mine, have sent me after the publication of the article "Prayer". They have all portrayed Albani better than I could, and we, his family, feel proud of this fact. Thanking everyone, I say that many of you, even without knowing Albani, have highlighted with great love Albani's personality, his great spirit and wonderful positivity, along with his special intelligence, as you have discovered the essence of his character, worldview and talent. My friends, you have made a very realistic portrait and have greatly eased my pain for Albani.
That is why we decided to include these considerations in this book, which complete your portrait, now indispensable, O Son!
The condolence message sent by email from Pristina by Academician Rexhep Qosja is dated July 5, 2023.
"Dear Xhevdet,
We have just learned the news of the passing of your son Albani. This unexpected event caused us a lot of pain and sorrow. We express our deepest condolences to you and your entire family for this tragic unexpected event. The longing and memory of Albani that will forever mark your life will be a longing and memory for all of us. May the land of Mother Albania rest in peace!
Rexhep Qosja with his family.”
My son! After that terrible day of July 4, 2023, I have always remembered this message from Professor Rexhepi: The longing and memory of you are marking and will forever mark our lives. Right! My distinguished friend said it very accurately.
We are already experiencing this state to the fullest, traveling with Albani in his cosmic eternity and everydayness.
I have tried to poetically describe this situation after your departure, Alban. It is impossible. I sit and stand in front of the computer dozens of times, but it is impossible. Suddenly, the great poet of Labëria, Ali Asllani, came to my aid. I am adapting his verses to the context of my pain:
Alban son, oh soul!
I have you deep in my heart,
I have light in my day,
I dream of you at night...
And wherever I was,
And wherever I am,
I had a song on my lips,
I have tears in my eyes!
Now the time has come for me, together with Lutje, to publish, on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of your birth, in a book some of your best creations, mainly from the period 1992-2000. They are writings that have to do with psychology, literature, and philosophy, of course. It is a diagram of your growth and maturity in your youth. I am not referring to your writings and studies in the fields of physics, astronomy, and computer science, for which you graduated and worked until your last day. There are over 20 volumes, handwritten notebooks, with hundreds of pages each, with intricate mathematical formulas, mainly in the field of #Fractal Universe Revolution, which I do not understand and do not dare to approach. All written in English, a language that you used just like Albanian.
However, your wonderful portrait also appears in these manuscripts that you left us in Albanian at the age of your youth. The reader does not find it difficult to understand and feel this growth year after year and day after day, the fantasy and concepts you had for life as well as your outstanding talent for articulating and expressing your ideas and thoughts. Thank you for that too, my Son!
We preserve and will preserve all this heritage that you have left us as an extremely precious and inalienable asset. It is the world where you lived among us and travel endlessly in a world that is both real and virtual. You are always among us, O Son!
I can only say this: I imagine you, my Son, with smiling and penetrating eyes, running and running endlessly towards the spaces of knowledge in several fields, towards the unknowns of this world that you wanted to explore to the fullest and wanted to improve and perfect it. At the 42nd kilometer of life, like the marathon runner of antiquity, you temporarily stopped this run, just to rest a little, to continue your journey in eternity.
Rent, or rent, Alban the marathon lover!
I would like to add something else here: There are many who write to me that you, Alban, have been reborn with your Prayer. I want to believe in this rebirth and I say that together with your other writings you will have a special profile and a creative individuality that will travel long to remain forever unforgettable. That is why I attached, immediately after the Prayer, the beautiful poem by the famous American writer Mary Elizabeth Frye, which seems to have been written especially for our pain.
The path is bright, my Marathonomak!
