Yesterday's rains, even though they caused major floods in Tropoja and other areas in the North of the country, also had a good side. According to the latest data, yesterday's rain has significantly improved the water situation in the lake of Fierza, which also serves as a regulator for the two large hydropower plants on the Drin cascade, Vau i Deja and Koman.
The data distributed for September 17 by the Albanian Electric Corporation (KESH) show that the water level in Fierza lake rose by 1 meter, to 268 meters above sea level, while the flows between yesterday and today are expected to be between 700-1000 m3/s. While the optimal point in the lake is 271 meters, the minimum is 244 meters, while when there is abundant rainfall, the level goes up to 296 meters. In addition to Fierza, in the Koman hydropower plant, the quota yesterday went to 167m, while in Vaun e Deja 72m.
This is good news for the country, at a time when an electricity crisis is expected all over the world. But the rain seems to improve the situation not only for Albania. Regarding the crisis that is expected in winter, the administrator of KESH, Ergys Verdhi, that the next four months will be wet, which will improve the energy situation in Albania.
In his public statements, Verdhi has indicated that in fact, during the winter, Albania should consume about 24 gigabytes of electricity per day, so that we do not exceed it. We can produce this amount through our reserve, but it all depends on the weather and atmospheric conditions. If there is rain, the crisis will not be felt so much. While on the other hand, the government has taken other measures, setting a limit of 800 kw/H for all consumers, after this phase the price goes to 42 Lek without VAT for every kilowatt over 800 KwH they spend. Families that spend up to 800 KH will continue to pay 9.5 Lek for electricity. The new price will be applied from October 1 and does not affect businesses.
