The Russian attack on Friday morning also affected the diplomatic offices of six of Ukraine's partner countries, including Albania. This fact was announced by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry in a statement to the media.

As a result of these attacks, the external facade and some spaces inside the building of the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Kiev and the embassies of five other countries were partially damaged, putting the lives of diplomatic personnel at risk.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said the embassies of Albania, Argentina, Palestine, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Portugal, located in the same building, were damaged as a result of the strike. There were no casualties among diplomatic staff.

"This is another barbaric attack by Russia on civilian targets that shows no willingness for peace," said European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas in X.

The attack on the embassy buildings was also condemned by the head of the European Commission. "Another cruel Russian attack against Kiev. This time on a building housing the Portuguese Embassy and several other diplomatic services. Putin's contempt for international law reaches new heights. Solidarity with Portugal and partner countries," Ursula von der Leyen wrote.

For its part, the North Atlantic Alliance has called on Russia to immediately stop attacks on Ukrainian civilians and diplomatic facilities.

The Russian Defense Ministry justified the attack by saying it had hit a command center used by Ukraine's SBU security service, a site it said was involved in the design and construction of missiles and a U.S.-made Patriot anti-aircraft missile system.

"The objectives of the strike have been achieved. All targets have been hit," the ministry said, calling the strike a response to Ukraine's attack on Russia's Rostov region with Western missiles. A Russian missile strike killed at least one person and damaged a historic cathedral, six embassies and other buildings across the Ukrainian capital during the morning rush hour on Friday, Ukrainian officials said.
