The Special Prosecutor's Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) was criticized a short time ago by Prime Minister Edi Rama and his followers for hitting only one side (the majority) and not investigating the duo Sali Berisha-Ilir Meta.
But the head of the Special Structure, Arben Kraja, in an interview for the Voice of America, says that the institution he leads does not act on the basis of lists or queues, but on facts and evidence.
Kraja further adds that they have agreed with the investigators of the National Bureau of Investigation to stay as far as possible from these opinions that are expressed either by political parties or different media regarding what SPAK should do and what it should not do.
The opposition criticizes SPAK for not taking action against senior politicians. On the other hand, Prime Minister Rama has mentioned the fact that you are hitting only to the left. Does this put the institution you lead under some kind of political pressure?
Edge: We act based on the law. Public opinion has its right to express itself, political parties also, everyone expresses it according to their interest. We must be aware that we do not act on the basis of a certain list or a certain order. We act on the basis of the evidence administered by the investigation for those criminal files we have. When it is possible to prove someone's guilt, we take the measures to send him to trial, this is our job. What we have agreed as a group of prosecutors, including the investigators of the National Bureau of Investigation, is to stay as far as possible from these opinions expressed either by political parties or different media regarding what SPAK should do and what it should not do. . Each prosecutor has his files in front of him, is independent to decide on them, is obliged to collect evidence,
The head of the Special Structure Against Corruption and Organized Crime in Albania, Arben Kraja, is visiting the USA these days.
