The case of three children in Durrës is an alarm bell that should wake up not only public opinion, but above all the responsible institutions, which appear to have been aware of the situation for months, but only reacted after everything became public.

To this day, the full truth of this family's story is unknown. However, what is known for sure is that a mother was publicly massacred on social media, labeled, humiliated, and judged, while no one raised serious charges and allegations against the children's father, who lives abroad and admitted to being aware of their situation.

A few days ago, a video circulated online showing three minors in a messy and unclean apartment. The footage caused an immediate public reaction and led to the children and their mother being taken to the infectious disease ward of Durrës hospital, where it was determined that the children were being treated for scabies.

According to the information provided, the school had referred the children to Social Services on November 11, 2025. The school itself has even stated that the mother had submitted a medical report confirming the children's infection and, from that moment on, they had been kept at home and were receiving treatment.

The State Social Service, the second institution that was aware of the case, also states that it offered help and work to the mother, but she refused, insisting that she wanted to manage on her own. According to this institution, during visits to the apartment, the situation was normal.

In a phone call from the hospital, the children's mother states that she has been treating the children herself for months, denies traveling abroad and says that everything can be verified in the TIMS system. She denies that the apartment was in the condition shown in the video and claims that the environment was deliberately arranged for filming. She also categorically denies that she ever left the children alone at night.

On the other hand, the children's father, who lives in Italy, admits that he was aware of the conditions in which the children lived, but expresses himself with the words: "What could I do?".

Only after the case became public did he declare that he would seek custody of the children. He denies that his ex-wife abandoned the children and says that she went to Italy with them for a few months, in an attempt to find a better life, but returned to Albania. He even emphasizes that he did not seek custody earlier, as he thought the children were better off with their mother.

A mother who worked up to 16 hours a day to raise three children now faces not only poverty but also social stigma. While the three minors remain at the center of a system that only reacted when the camera was turned on.

This case does not need popular trials. It needs institutional responsibility, real support and justice for the children./ Fiks Fare
