For three days now, the Oncology Hospital of Tirana has not been performing radiotherapy for about 100 patients per day, due to the breakdown of both accelerators - one was damaged by the bunker door, the other by a functionality problem.
Journalist Osman Stafa reports that this has halted the necessary treatment protocol for cancer patients, leaving patients with endless waits and pointless travel.
Touching patient testimonies
A patient, desperate after the fourth failure, bursts out: " I came yesterday, the machine was broken. I came today, the same one. How much longer will I suffer with a car, to pick me up, to take me for an X-ray? I beg the Prime Minister to stop, because we are fighting for our lives! "
She adds that the doctor has warned that the lack of radiation will reduce the effect of the cure, and addresses Rama, who visited the hospital 10-15 days ago: "Build us a new hospital, God brought us here!"
