The High Court has returned the case of former Vlora prosecutor Aurel Zarka to the Appeal Court for retrial.

In a notice made public today, the Supreme Court announces that it has decided to "Revoke Decision No. 62 (87-2025-398) dated 12.11.2025 of the Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime and send the case for reconsideration to this court with another panel."

The Special Court had sentenced the former Chief Prosecutor of Vlora, Aurel Zarka, to 4 years in prison, which due to the summary trial was reduced to 2 years and 8 months. He was also disqualified from exercising public functions for 5 years.

The former prosecutor of Vlora had appealed the decision, requesting a review of the evidence and court proceedings.

Zarka is accused of being involved in corruption and exerting influence over his colleagues.

According to SPAK, Aurel Zarka was a user of the Sky Ecc application. Conversations conducted there and other verifications showed that he was bribed for a case in the Vlora Court.

The former prosecutor is also accused of attempting to bribe a colleague in Vlora to drop an investigation and, in 3 other cases, exercising illegal influence over his colleagues.
