The teachers have announced that they will withdraw from the hunger strike. This decision comes a day after they warned that they will go on strike if the president secures their lives, but after a meeting among the members of the teachers' union, it was decided not to go on strike.
The teachers will most likely continue with the protests, while they are expected to come out with a decision next week. Meanwhile, some of the protesting lecturers seem to have returned to the auditoriums. "Natural Sciences" do not do with a total boycott of learning.
The teachers have been protesting every day since October 17, leaving the faculties' auditoriums to address the government with some demands. In public appearances, Prime Minister Edi Rama described the head of the Teachers' Union, Sandër Kovaçi, as a 'SHIK' who takes orders from the pulpit.
The head of the government said that the increase in teachers' salaries is high, compared to the state the country is in due to the economic and energy crisis. Rama said that the salary of teachers did not increase by 15% either, whose work he called more difficult than that of pedagogues.
On October 5, the Government has decided to increase the salary of teachers by 15%, after the latter's protests. Of which 7% will be covered by the state budget and 8% will be covered by the administration board itself.
On the other hand, the lecturers have expressed that this increase is insufficient and does not meet their demands and needs.
