The family of 33-year-old Paulin Zefi, who lost his life in a tragic accident with his wife, Zhkalina Hysi, returned to the scene today. They appealed to the relevant authorities to take measures on this road axis because it has often been the cause of accidents.
Amidst great pain and tears in their eyes, they laid flowers and lit candles in honor of the victims, Paulin and his wife, Jacqueline.
Paulini's uncle, shocked by the loss of his relatives, says that this axis should have other standards since, in recent years, a high number of accidents with fatal consequences have been recorded.
"Two days ago we suffered a great loss, we lost our nephew Paulini, along with his wife. I take this opportunity to greet all those who have participated in our grief, comforting us with messages, standing by us. As you can see, and based on the images I have seen other times, I have noticed that this is a road that needs to be given full attention because most of the accidents that have occurred on this road segment, most of the accidents have had major consequences. They must at least lend a hand because they are also heading towards the summer flow, it is inevitable that a wrong action by the driver does not bring serious consequences. I pray to God and ask the drivers to respect the norms of the Highway Code because a wrong action by them will bring an inevitable consequence for them, for their family, but also a pain that will never be forgotten in the world. "We, who are speaking today, have returned from the second funeral of Paulini's daughter-in-law. It is the police that is separating the actions," said Sokol Zefi.
Residents of the area say that this road does not meet the proper standards, and they have often witnessed tragic accidents such as the one in which two young people lost their lives.
"The road here is very bad. Cars have hit 5 people in our neighborhood. We have made requests, but they have not approved them. It is very dangerous for us too. Cars are going at 150 and 180 per hour. There are no police here. The police are on the bridge, they are in the shade. I don't want to judge anyone, there is no state here, father. The state has been finished here, it is finished. It should be with other, normal standards. Here the road is straight, it goes at 180 kilometers per hour, it goes around that curve and enters someone else's parcel. It takes the other one in front, so here I don't know, let the state intervene, or let us lock ourselves inside and not go out at all. Or even when we go out, let us give our hand to the house, so that we either return or we don't return," said the resident.
The tragic event occurred on the afternoon of February 12, when the two young men were traveling in an “Audi” vehicle. They collided with a truck on the Lezhë-Shëngjin axis. Paulin Zefi died immediately after the accident, while the passenger, Zhaklina Hysa, was transported in serious condition to the Trauma Hospital in Tirana where she died a few hours later, bringing the number of victims to two.
