Vera Myrtaj and her boyfriend Fionino Merkuri were found murdered in the house of the 37-year-old Albanian on Monday morning, in Spinea, Venice. The author of the double murder, Vera's ex-husband, Viron Karabollaj. Vera's story, told today by neighbors to the Italian media, is similar to many women who have had her fate.
Separated from her husband three years ago, Vera lived with her two daughters in Spinea (Venice). He had a new partner for a year and a half. A relationship that may have caused the jealousy of the ex who killed them both on Sunday November 20 and then hanged himself.
Vera Myrtaj had arrived in Italy, from Greece, about eight years ago; apparently at the suggestion of two brothers who had been working there for some time. Soon after, the woman was joined by her ex-husband. In 2016, the two moved to Spinea, to a large apartment in via Leopardi. A house in which over the years they invested thousands of euros to adapt it to the needs of their youngest 13-year-old daughter, who is in a wheelchair. The first problems started for the couple, which became more and more serious. He rapes her, she finds the strength to leave him and start a new life. He does several jobs at the same time in different hotels in the historic center of Venice. Covid locks him at home and he is forced to take a new job. To support her two daughters - 13 and 15 years old - she started offering beauty services at home.
Karabollaj and work in the construction company
A few months ago, the thirty-seven-year-old's new boyfriend moved into her house. Perhaps this would be the spark that sparked the killer's rage. Viron Karabollaj had kept in touch with his family and periodically came to pick up his two daughters to spend time with them. He worked for years at "Venetoponteggi", a construction company in Chirignago with headquarters in Mirano. His body would be found today exactly where he worked, after he executed with a knife the mother of two daughters and the 23-year-old Merkuri. / Corriere
