African swine fever has reappeared in our country. The Ministry of Agriculture announces that a hotbed has been identified in Ishull-Lezha, on a farm where 15 pigs have died, which have now been buried.
For veterinary experts, the spread of such diseases in our country was raised as a concern months ago. While they consider the measures taken to be overdue.
"We are talking about a disease that is not dangerous for the consumer. Normally, the consumption of products from sick animals, since it lowers immunity, is not nutritious meat, and it is not advisable to consume these animals with the disease. Animal plague has to do with the great economic damages that are caused. But measures have been taken for other diseases," Ervin Resuli, head of the Professional Order of Veterinarians, tells A2 CNN.
In addition to swine fever, Albania has taken measures for a number of diseases that are at risk of being transmitted by imports to other countries that have them, such as brucellosis, bluetongue, and ruminant disease. Although this disease is not transmitted to humans, it is important to be careful, according to experts.
"It is essential that the ministry takes measures to make available the supporting material base, disinfectant, clothing, and logistics, while in terms of the number of veterinarians, there is the right amount and with the right knowledge," says Resuli.
The affected farm has been placed under surveillance and, by order of the Ministry of Agriculture, the sale and trading of live pigs in open areas and live animal markets in the territory of the Municipality of Lezha has been prohibited.
