An independent Russian media outlet has documented more than 50,000 deaths among Russian military personnel since the aggression against Ukraine began more than two years ago, but it is believed tens of thousands more have died.
Mediazona, which in cooperation with the BBC, calculates Russian war casualties based on deaths recorded by open sources, said in its latest update that 50,471 members of the Russian military had died in the war since it began in February 2022.
Based on the compensation records for the families of the soldiers killed, their number is over 85,000, according to Mediazonas, which says this should be the real number.
Russia has lost many tanks, armored and artillery units in recent weeks, although the casualties from those losses are not included in the latest report.
According to media, Russia loses about 1,200 soldiers a week.
According to the Ukrainian army, the Russian army suffered 45,1730 casualties in the war, including deaths and injuries, while the United States and British intelligence say the Russian casualty toll is 300,000 killed and wounded.
Kiev has claimed that more than 180,000 Russian military personnel have been killed. Russia rarely announces figures for casualties. According to Moscow's latest estimate, seven months after the war began, their numbers were below 6,000. Ukraine has lost 31,000 soldiers since the start of the war. Voice of America
