Renowned Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli died in Florence at the age of 83 after a long illness.
He left behind six children, including the youngest Giorgio, just over a year old.
Next to him in the last hours, as in the last 15 years, was his partner, Sandra.
Roberto Cavalli was the founder of the Florentine fashion house of the same name.
His grandfather, Giuseppe Rossi, was a painter, with works exhibited in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
His father Giorgio was killed by the German army in 1944, shot in the municipality of Cavriglia.
Until the age of 20 he stuttered and had a lot of difficulty concentrating, but he managed to graduate from the Academy of Florence, as such was his passion for art first, then photography and finally fashion.
In the 70s he patented a process of printing on leather and began to create different materials with fabrics and leather.
In 1970 he presented his first collection in Paris.
He opened a small shop in Saint-Tropez selling used and reworked jeans in his style, where Brigitte Bardot and Mick Jagger were customers.
And this is where his success began, with many ups and downs and never in between.
